Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization, but is open to all persons of good will — regardless of race, religion, origin or all other differences — who want to help low-income families acquire a simple, decent house.
Volunteers and partner families provide most of the labour, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build the houses.
Habitat for Humanity houses are sold to partner families at no profit and with no interest charged; mortgage payments are used to build more houses.
So far, Habitat for Humanity has built or participated in the construction of over 400,000 houses, and has thus helped over 2 million persons. HFH is at work in all 50 U.S. states and around 80 countries around the world.
