Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization, but is open to all persons of good will — regardless of race, religion, origin or all other differences — who want to help low-income families acquire a simple, decent house.

Volunteers and partner families provide most of the labour, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build the houses.

Habitat for Humanity Montreal first became active in Quebec in January 1998. The initial project was completed on October 31, 1999 in the South-West borough, more precisely in the St. Henri neighborhood. It was a pair of townhouses that allowed two families to acquire their first home in 2000. Several hundred volunteers gave a hand to bring this to fruition.
