Habitat for Humanity Montreal Home Awarded LEED Canada Gold Certification

A First for Habitat for Humanity Montreal

(Montréal, Quebec) April 18, 2011 – On March 31st Habitat for Humanity Montreal (HFHM) was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Canada Gold Certification by the Green Building Council of Canada for its Ste-Clotilde project. LEED certification is a first for a HFHM home.

LEED is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. On September 25, 2010 Habitat for humanity Montreal (HFHM) handed over the keys of its very first ‘green’ home to the Aabid-Ezzerouali Family. The duplex appartment, located in the St. Henri neighborhood of Montreal, was built with strict adherence to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines, with an eye to achieving the Silver certification. As a matter of fact, we were extremely proud to learn in March 2011 that the duplex had actually been certified to the Gold level!
